Big Atlas Weekend 2022
![]() |
Want to represent Newfoundland and make your birding count this summer? Join us from June 24th to 26th for this year’s Big Atlas Weekend! This exciting annual competition is a fun way for birders from across the province to document breeding birds and come together as a birding community. The event is being coordinated across the four US states and two Canadian provinces currently conducting breeding bird atlases: Newfoundland, Ontario, New York, Maine, Maryland and DC, and North Carolina. To participate, all you need to do is go atlassing between 6:00 pm on Friday, June 24 and 11:59 pm on Sunday, June 26 and submit your checklist through the NatureCounts App or Web Portal. Atlas Square Blitz – Petty Harbour/Maddox Cove
![]() |
We are excited to be organizing a square blitz on the Avalon this year! A square blitz is a one-day event where any and all atlassers are invited to participate in point counts and general atlassing in an effort to complete a square in one day! This year we will be blitzing square 22TCT75, the square that includes Maddox-Cove and Petty Harbour, on June 11th, with a rain date of June 12th. Find a map of the square here. Please email us at nfatlasreg7@gmail.com if you are interested in conducting point counts or would like some suggestions on where to atlas so we can coordinate survey efforts. And for those interested in connecting with other atlassers, we will be meeting up at 8 am by the Petty Harbour Mini Aquarium (with snacks!). We can’t wait to see you out there! |
